Freedom Conversions got started after one of our founders, Clint Drawdy, and his family discovered that there were no suitable driving options available for Clint’s wife who experiences frequent restroom visits after having a large portion of her intestines removed. Today, we’re helping people who feel limited due to Crohn's disease, colitis, GI issues, or other medical concerns that prevent them from driving everyday with confidence. Frequent restroom visits are no problem with our vans. We’ve designed a vehicle with a comfortable bathroom that can be driven just about anywhere, including most parking structures and drive-throughs. It’s time for you to live freely again.

How to Take Road Trips with GI Issues

Traveling with Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or other GI issues can disrupt a trip. At the very least, it can leave you feeling like you’re the cause for someone else’s inconvenience. At worst, you may choose to not travel at all. It doesn’t have to be that way. You do have options and it is possible for you to take long road trips. Here are a few tips to get you on the road again.

  • Travel with a bathroom - Seriously. You can buy a Mercedes Sprinter van with a bathroom for less than the cost of a new SUV. Freedom Conversions is one example of a company that does a fantastic job of upfitting conversions vans with full bathrooms (sink too!) so that you can literally drive anywhere and pull over anywhere at any time.

  • Be honest with your travel companions - Your friends, family, and coworkers will understand if you’re just honest with them. Let them know that you need a bathroom frequently. Better yet, let them ride in your van with a bathroom while you drive. They’ll use it, too!

  • Travel prepared - If your ride has a bathroom, you don’t need to think about this too much. Just make sure you carry the essentials with you at all times (i.e. toilet paper).

  • Plan your trip - Have your stops planned out as best you can. Don’t push yourself unnecessarily, but make it a fun exercise to set goals for when you will stop.

  • Enjoy it! - You are perfectly capable of having a fantastic time on the road, whether you’re taking a long cross-country excursion or just going up to the store. Technology and tools exist that can make traveling easier for you.

We care about you because we’ve been there, too. We are with you every step of the way and we understand that traveling can be challenging if you have GI issues or any medical issue that’s holding you back. It’s time for you to experience freedom again. Make an investment in yourself. Schedule your free, no-hassle, no-pressure consultation with one of our friendly design specialists today.
